 "Landlord Pays for Housing Discrimination Against Local Family"

  • The Center’s fall schedule of fair housing training includes sessions with the city of Mesa, a private realty firm, the city of Scottsdale, Valley of the Sun United Way, and a Spanish presentation to a local church congregation.
  • The Director attended the Hispanic Federal Executive Summit VI. A presentation was made on Hispanics and Fair Housing.
  • The Director made a fair housing presentation to local HUD employees in Phoenix.
  • The Center along with the Arizona Fair Housing Partnership, participated in the West Valley Fair Housing Issues and Solutions held in Avondale.
  • The AFHC staff participated in an Asian meeting to support education and outreach.Staff members attended the annual HUD training conference in Washington DC.

    Meetings
  • The Center hosted a meeting with Martin Nowakowski, Senior Assistant to Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, regarding expansion of fair housing services in Phoenix.

    Awards
  • The Center was awarded a contract to conduct an Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice, a prerequisite for HUD Community Development Block Grant funding to public entities.
  • The Center, along with the Arizona Fair Housing Partnership accepted an award from HUD for its efforts in providing fair housing education and outreach to Arizona communities.
  • Director Valenzuela received a community achievement award from the National Latino Peace Officers Association.

    Articles
  • The Center was highlighted in Spanish articles on fair housing in La Voz and La Prensa Hispana Spanish language newspapers.

    Welcome new staff and board member
  • The Center would like to welcome Marta Goday to the Center. Ms. Goday holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology.
  • Charles P. Thompson, President of Workforce Experts, has been elected to the Center’s Board of Directors. Mr. Thompson is a Human Resources Consultant. His career includes 23 years with Allied Signal, Dial Corporation and Reynolds Metals Company.
